Virtual Convention-AFSCME Council 65

By action of the Council 65 Executive Board, the regular Annual Meeting of Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Council 65, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, AFL-CIO, will be held VIRTUALLY at 12:30 pm on Friday, October 2, 2020 and will continue in session until the business of the meeting is completed. The convention will occur through a system called Telephone Townhall Meeting. Registration of delegates will occur approximately 45 minutes prior to the 12:30 pm start time by an automatic phone call placed to the properly registered delegates. Information regarding registration and call in information for the virtual convention will be sent out to registered delegates via email that is provided on the credential form.

This year, all the training will be done in a virtual format and will be held Friday, October 2nd starting at 8:00 AM and concluding at 12:00 PM. The schedule for each training is available in the convention packets that were mailed to the local leadership and the links to register for each course are listed below. Pre-registration is required. Participants will receive an email invitation for their training approximately 1-2 weeks prior to convention based on pre-registration. The invitation will have the log-in details for the training(s) that you select. You do not need to be a delegate to attend these courses, so please offer this opportunity to all the members in your local.

Financial Treasurer's WorkshopThe AFSCME Financial Standards Code consists of the rules and regulations that apply to all AFSCME Affiliates regarding financial recordkeeping and reporting. In this training, you will learn how to maintain financial records, how to authorize expenditures, and the proper way to document your union receipts and expenditures. You will also learn about the financial reports required for presentation to the your executive board and membership, and the required annual filings for the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Labor. This training is highly recommended for all officers, executive board members and trustees.

Officer Training/New Employee Orientation:  Building an early relationship with new co-workers is the first step to creating life-long union members. This workshop will cover how to be systematic about new employee outreach as well as techniques for being successful.

Member Action Team Training: Without an effective communication structure in the workplace, some of our members (and potential members) are out of the loop. This workshop will explain how to set up Member Action Teams (MATs) to breathe new life into your local union.
